Shan Racing Team competed in New Zealand for three seasons from 2001, and has been active here in Australia since 2018. They race in the 65MPH Sports Class in, The Punisher, which is a GRP Cootacraft from Mark Pecherzewski and the team, powered by a 300hp V8 Mercury outboard. The team comprises of Ryan Shan as the Driver, Justin Tang as the Navigator, and he is new to offshore powerboat racing, so welcome Justin, with Race Marine attending to mechanicals, and Aidan Shan as shore crew.

Shan Racing Team are determined to help grow the sport, but genuinely have a competitive spirit, where winning matters, but not at the cost of safety or fairness. Ryan recalls, “I grew up around my uncle’s boats, and began racing in the early 2000s in the New Zealand Offshore Championship in a 19ft ski boat called, Sytec under the DMZ Global Racing Team. Despite all that, my favourite racing moment is, “Watching my son Aidan racing and wining the Junior Victorian Championship and Australian J3 Championship.”

Shan Racing Team’s favourite venue is Wyndham Harbour, which is handy as it kicks the season off this weekend (25/26 February, 2023). “The Wyndham Harbour course can be very challenging, with mixture of rough technical sections, and fast sections during a lap, depending on sea conditions. Wyndham Harbour also has a great location and facilities including a marina, hardstand, boat ramp, and a wide range of options for food and off the water entertainment.”

Look out for them in the Sport65 class, as they want this year’s Championship. Many thanks to them and their sponsors Cootacraft Boats, and Race Marine.
